Bunakov-Fondaminsky, I.I. Ways of Russia. Text compilation and preparation under the editorship of O.A. Korostelev, E.A. Andrushchenko; afterword and commentary by E.A. Andrushchenko. Мoscow, IWL RAS Publ., 2020. 688 p.https://doi.org/10.22455/978-5-9208-0631-4
Editors: Elena A. Andrushchenko, Oleg A. Korostelev
Keywords: Fondaminsky, Russian history, Moscow period, empire, land community, Western viewpoint.
    Abstract:

This publication commences a new scientific series dedicated to forms of interaction between Russian liter- ature and journalism in the crisis epoch of the early twentieth century. It contains works penned by I. Bunakov (real name: Ilya Isidorovich Fondaminsky, 1880–1942), a highly eminent personality in the history of Russia. I. Bunakov is known as a revolutionary and columnist, social activist and Christian martyr, thinker, scientist and editor. He had a short but vibrant life of a Russian intellectual, following his country through the most dramatic days of its history of the past century. Having developed as a social activist and columnist in the pre-revolution- ary years, I. Bunakov was a member of the Esers Party’s Central Committee, a representative of the Provisional Government in the Black Sea fleet, and a member of the Constituent Assembly. In 1919 he emigrated and be- came one of the founders and editors of “Sovremennye zapiski” (1920–1940) and “Novyi grad” (1931–1939) journals, of the alliance and almanac “Krug”; he encouraged the association “Pravoslavnoe delo”, as well as many circles, societies and organizations. Being on friendly terms with Z.N. Gippius and D.S. Merezhkovsky, B.V. Savinkov and Mother Maria, I.A. Bunin and V.V. Nabokov, he ardently supported writers and scholars by estab- lishing publishing houses, organizing literary events and creating theatre companies. The publication includes I.I. Fondaminsky’s central historiosophic work “Ways of Russia” that has only been published once, together with his articles in emigrant periodicals. These reflect on experiences of social and political struggle during the pre-revolutionary period, during the years of Russian revolutions, and also on their historical causes.

Maxim V. Skorokhodov (author) Landowner’s estate in Russian literature of the late XIX — first third of the XX century: an interdisciplinary approach. Ex. ed. Elena V. Glukhova. Moscow, IWL RAS Publ., 2020. 272 p. (In Russian)
    Ex. editor: Elena V. Glukhova
Keywords: Russian literature, Russian estate, N.А. Klyuev, S.A. Еsenin, I.S. Shmelev, B.K. Zaitsev
    Abstract:

The monograph examines the problems of the thesaurus of Russian literary «estate studies» in an interdisciplinary manner: it is shown how the theoretical tools of humanitarian geography and art history enrich the literary analysis of the texts of Russian literature, reflecting the specifics of the «estate» and «dacha» models of rural life. The peculiarities of the «estate-dacha topos» are revealed when referring to the lyrics of N.А. Klyuev, poems by S.A. Еsenin, prose by I.S. Shmelev and B.K. Zaitsev. The appendix contains materials summarizing the author’s experience in developing strategic planning documents for a number of literary reserve museums and estates-museums.

The book is addressed to humanities scholars — philologists, culturologists, humanitarian geographers, as well as cultural figures and a wide range of lovers of Russian literature.

Meeting of East and West. Interaction of Literatures and Traditions. Eds. A.S. Balakhovskaya, M.R. Nenarokova, N.V. Zakharova. Moscow, IWL RAS Publ., 2020. 335 p.
Ex. editor: Alexandra S. Balakhovskaya, Maria R. Nenarokova, Natalya V. Zakharova
Keywords: world literature, dialogue of cultures, East-West dichotomy, tradition, innovation.
    Abstract:

The collective work included articles covering a wide range of issues, but united by one problem: the study of cultural transfer in the works of art in the countries of the East and West, where the East means a region that includes the countries of Africa, the Middle East, Far East and Southeast Asia, and The whole of Europe is included in the West, including Russia. Such a wide geographical scope is determined by the desire to study the mutual influences and ideological image of the phenomena of European, Russian and Oriental literature and cultures; the authors of the articles examine the transformation of the ideological and aesthetic views of European writers in the course of their perception by Eastern writers; analyze the mechanism of adaptation of the phenomena of foreign cultures by Europeans. It is important to study the mechanism for changing the Eurocentric view of the world, the dynamics of the literary process, the definition of the place and role of European literature in the complex process of interaction between the traditional and innovative views of progressive writers who were at the source of the contemporary literature of Eastern countries, including the African continent. The authors of the articles of collective work set as their task the study of the degree of mutual penetration of traditional views and literary and aesthetic concepts of European writers, which gave rise to new literary genres both in the East, and in Russia and Europe. Another task is to understand the internal mechanisms that led to the new status of the eastern region in the global space, the understanding of processes in public and literary thought in these countries and the mutual influence of European and non-European literatures and cultures.
