Abstract:
The article deals with epistolary strategies used by Zinaida Gippius to construct her relationships with various addressees on the borderline the public and the private. The text is mostly based on Gippius’s letters to Nina 288 Berberova and Vladislav Khodasevich, illustrating the evolution of the three writers’ relationships during the 1920s–1930s. Besides, a wide range of other texts (the letters of all the three to other addressees, émigré publications in the periodicals, diaries, and memoirs) are used as the background for the reconstruction of the history of Gippius — Khodasevich — Berberova relationships, the author of the article relying on the comparative and hermeneutic reading of cultural texts methodology and techniques.
