Abstract:

The article provides a general overview of materials that appeared in the press of Estonia and Latvia from the first mention of the name of S. A. Esenin to materials caused by the tragic death of the Russian poet. The authors of a significant number of responses were journalists and cultural ideologists who visited Soviet Russia and got an idea of the literary and cultural life of that time. Some of them got acquainted with S. A. Esenin. Special attention in the article is paid to the translations of Esenin’s works and memoirs about him.
