Abstract:

The article deals with the formation of the linguistic landscape of the city of Ulan-Ude, the capital of the Republic of Buryatia, and its connection with the current situation. It was determined that the beginning of the formation of the linguistic landscape of the city at the present stage can be considered the first half of the 1990s. It was shown that the actions of the legislature, as well as business owners, the media and ordinary citizens, contribute to an increase in the representation of the Buryad language, which is the state language along with Russian. The course towards equal representation of the Buryad and Russian languages is supported by all actors, which, with coordinated work, can accelerate the ongoing positive changes.

Keywords: urban multilingualism, linguistic landscape, the Buryad language, the Republic of Buryatia, sociolinguistics.
