Abstract: The article examines the reception of Platonov’s stories of the second half of the 1930s through marginalia in the manuscripts of the short stories “The Necessary Homeland,” “Immortality,” “The July Thunderstorm,” and “In a Beautiful and Furious World.” Editors of various scales — from A.M. Gorky to ordinary employees of publishing houses and journals — left their comments in the margins of Platonov’s manuscripts. Their notes sometimes turned into a hidden or explicit dialog with the author and even a friendly collaboration.

  • Keywords: Andrey Platonov, A.M. Gorky, S.T. Grigoriev, stories of the second half of the 1930s, editing, censorship, typescript.
