The reported study was funded by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research and the Lipetsk Region, project no. 20- 412-480001 "The Artist and the Power: Mikhail Prishvin and the Soviet Leaders."
Abstract:
The article aims to reveal Prishvin's philosophical, ideological, and artistic perception of the atmosphere of the ideological and political struggle within Soviet society, which largely determined the drama of the life of both ordinary citizens and the personal destinies of the Bolshevik leaders. Among the latter, one can single out such prominent party and state figures as V.I. Lenin, L.D. Trotsky, I.V. Stalin, N.I. Bukharin, M.I. Kalinin, B.E. Kalmykov, N.A. Semashko, with whom Prishvin was directly or indirectly familiar. The scientific novelty lies in the analysis of the aspect of Prishvin's creative heritage, which has not yet been studied in Prishvin studies, that understanding the ideology and political practice of Soviet leaders is one of the significant areas of the writer's art. The article shows that the named Soviet leaders were not only the subject of Prishvin's thoughts in his multi-volume Diary but also became the heroes of essays, stories, and journalistic articles. They are depicted as prototypes for several characters in such works of art as "Wordly Chalice," "Kashchey's Chain," "The Tale of Our Time," "Sovereign's Road," and "Ship Thicket."
