The book includes fragments of four songs by Alcaeus of Mylitene: a hymn to the divine twins Dioscuri, rescuers of seafarers in trouble, and three songs based on the tales of the Trojan War: two songs of Helen, who was the cause of the war, and a song of Ajax’ crime which brought Athena’s wrath upon the Greeks who had sacked Troy. The Greek text (reproduced mainly from E.-M. Voigt’s edition) goes along with Russian translation and a detailed commentary intended for intermediate and advanced students of ancient Greek language and literature.
