Abstract:
This article is devoted to clarifying the history of the discussion of V. Nekrasov’s novel “Stalingrad” (it is also known under the titles “On the Edge of the Earth”, “In the Trenches of Stalingrad”) in the publishing house “Soviet Writer” and the editorial office of the magazine “Znamya”. Also, on the basis of archival sources, the author analyzes the attitude to this work of A. Fadeev and, more broadly, the circumstances of the nomination of the novel for the Stalin Prize. In this regard, internal reviews of the novel relating to February-April 1946 (A. Tvardovsky, A. Tarasenkov, etc.) and the text of the speech of the critic V. Alexandrov at the meeting of the Presidium of the Union of Soviet Writers in December 1946 are published for the first time.
Keywords: V. Nekrasov, novel “Stalingrad”, internal reviews, A. Fadeev, Stalin Prize.
