Abstract:
The Battle of Stalingrad is one of the key battles of World War II. The city suffered colossal destruction. Already in December 1942 – January 1943, the city and regional authorities decided to begin restoration work, although the fighting in Stalingrad was still ongoing, and on April 4, 1943, the State Defense Committee (GKO) adopted a resolution “On priority measures to restore the economy of Stalingrad and the Stalingrad region”. The process of working out an urban development concept for the restoration of Stalingrad and the search for an architectural and artistic solution were not easy. Stalingrad is a symbol of the fortitude and courage of our people, the beginning of a radical change in the course of the Great Patriotic War and the entire Second World War. The article shows the process of post-war restoration of Stalingrad based on archival documents introduced into academic circulation for the first time.
Keywords: the Great Patriotic War, Stalingrad, restoration, military feat, labor heroism.
