Abstract:
Based on the new archival materials and I.A. Bunin’s correspondence, the life of the writer in exile during the difficult war years is presented. The fate of the writer’s personal archive, which remained in Paris, is being investigated separately: according to the discovered documents stored in foreign archives, the movement of nine suitcases in which it was located has been traced. The correspondence between Bunin and N.N. Berberova, who, during Hitler’s offensive on Moscow, invited Bunin to participate in the distribution of his books in the occupied territories of Russia, is considered. For the first time, Bunin’s name was mentioned in the Russian pro-Nazi newspapers “Za Rodinu” and “Parizhsky Vestnik”. Bunin himself was repeatedly invited to participate in these publications, but he consistently refused. The article also discusses the fight against collaborators after the liberation of France.
Keywords: Ivan Bunin, Second World War, fate of the writer’s archive, Nina Berberova, collaborationism.
