Abstract:
This article presents the latest publications that attest to the enduring scientific value of the legacy of P.S. Uvarova’s Caucasus studies. It is exemplified by how her notes, observations, and recommendations played a catalytic role in academic research not only for her contemporaries, but continue to do so for subsequent generations of scholars. Attention is focused on the “Abkhaz” segments of Uvarova’s books “The Caucasus: Travel Notes” and “The Caucasus. Abkhazia, Adjara, Shavshetia, Poskhovskii Plot.” The range of problems and themes in research drawing on Uvarova’s works encompasses issues related to the assessment of social phenomena in the region, the dating and condition of archaeological and architectural monuments, the characteristics of historical figures, and more. A wide circle of contemporary Caucasus researchers who have turned to Uvarova’s works and are productively working in this area today includes academic scholars from Russia and Abkhazia, such as A.I. Alieva, V.Sh. Avidzba, A.I. Dzhopua, V.A. Nyushkov, A.S. Plekhanova, L.G. Khrushkova, O.V. Maan, R.L. Avidzba, N.V. Solodov, N.I. Medvensky.
