Abstract:
The most important goal of the work is to highlight the main features of the art magazine “Art of the Slavs” (Prague; Bratislava; Brno, 1923– 1926), founded by art critic, poet and literary critic S.K. Makovsky. The novelty and relevance of the study is determined by the fact that the program and publications of the magazine remain insufficiently studied by Russian specialists. It is noted that the program formulated by Makovsky assumed not only the study of artistic and literary creativity, but included the maximum task — to become an organ of intercultural communication of the Slavic peoples. In his opinion, not a single serious attempt was made to highlight the main features of the aesthetic culture of Slavism as an integral phenomenon. At the same time, it is emphasized that Russian painting primarily owes its wide popularity in the West due to the artists who found themselves in post-revolutionary exile. As an example, the problem of relationships with European art in the works of N.K. Roerich, B.D. Grigoriev, S.Yu. Sudeikin, S.A. Sorin, N.S. Goncharova is studied. The author also analyzes the features of the literary review, including poems and prose by authors from Russia and other Slavic countries. He concludes that although the task of creating a pan-Slavic multilingual magazine had not been fully completed, it should be noted that its publication for some time in the form of thematic issues in Slavic languages played the role of a printed organ that promoted and united the art of different Slavic peoples.
