Abstract:
Highly appreciating the E.I. Zamyatin’s novel “Uyezdnoe” (1913), M. Gorky invited the writer to contribute to his periodicals. In the April 1916 issue of the magazine Letopis’ (1915–1917) three stories by Zamyatin appeared, the writer himself was in England at that time. Returning to Petrograd in September 1917, Zamyatin met Gorky, after which four more of his stories and three articles were published, this time on the pages of the newspaper Novaya Zhizn’ (1917–1918). The last article, “On uniform distribution” (June 1918), was imbued with ideas that the author later developed artistically in his main work — the novel “We” (1919–1920).
