Study on M.A. Sholokhov’s reading interests is of great importance for understanding both how the spiritual world of the writer was formed and what role books played in his life. The article provides the contemporaries’ evidences concerning M.A. Sholokhov’s reading inclinations and his acquaintance with the best works of Russian and world literature. The article also presents important information on M.A. Sholokhov’s private library (which was lost during the hostilities near the Stanitsa of Vyoshenskaya in 1942), listing the editions collected by the writer from the 1920s to the early 1940s.
