Abstract:
The article is devoted to history of literature as genre in “Geschichte der poetischen Literatur Deutschlands” by J. von Eichendorff and “Handbuch der Geschichte und Charakteristik der schönen Literatur der Deutschen, Zum Gebrauch der Vorlesungen über Deutsche Literatur” by Küster. The author researches the works in context of german literature. The specific features of the approach to the history of literature are analysed in each case. Eichendorff’s work association with the history of national spirit and history of philosophy is noticed. The kinds of poetry classified by Eichendorff are considered. The intimate association of “Geschichte der poetischen Literatur Deutschlands” with ideas of Heidelberg Romanticism is researched. The author points out the correlation between genre and function of the work. Küster’s work practical focus is significant. The work by Küster has features of reading book as genre, the questions for students. Special attention is paid to the composition of each work. A selection of the texts, a specific character of chronology are researched. The article draws conclusion concerning the academic character of the monography by Eichndorff. Küster’s work is, on the contrary, the textbook for the universities.
