Abstract:

This article examines previously overlooked pretexts of Lermontov’s novella “Taman” (an anecdote about Marshal Turenne from P. Blanchard’s “A Consolation for Children, or Useful and Pleasant Reading”, E. Scribе’s libretto “The Oath, or the Money Forgers” and A. Pushkin’s poem “The Nereid”). These observations cast new light on the novella’s genre and its dependence on the literary tradition.

  • Keywords: M. Lermontov, “Taman”, genre, context, P. Blanchard, E. Scribe, A. Pushkin.
