Abstract: The article is devoted to such a noteworthy part of Platonov’s literary criticism in the second half of the 1930s as his reviews in the journal “Children’s Literature.” These essays fit well into the journal’s history with its changing strategy and in the context of discussions around problems of creating great children’s literature in the 1930s. Criticism played a notable role in solving assigned problems. The analysis of Platonov’s first review, published in “Children’s Literature” (“Two Stories”), allows to reveal the writer’s attitude towards children’s literature as an art, which requires profound content, perfect language, and adherence to the truth of life.

  • Keywords: Platonov, children’s literature, criticism of children’s literature, the theme of family and home, the journal “Children’s Literature.”
