Abstract:
The article provides a brief overview of books and pamphlets published in pre-revolutionary Abkhazia (Sukhum district). These are publications belong to the social sphere, humanities and natural science. Their thematic range is quite wide: education, pedagogy, fiction, history, archeology, guidebooks, biographies, martial art, religion, church, public administration, politics, organizations, associations, agriculture, botany, meteorology, architecture, technical literature, hydraulic structures, railway, etc. An analysis of books and pamphlets published in pre-revolutionary Abkhazia revealed the predominance of publications on religious (Christian) themes and on agriculture. Many authors published before the Revolution are completely forgotten both in Abkhazia and in Russia. Although the scientific and artistic level of publications is unequal, forgotten and obsolete publications, nevertheless, have a certain historical and cultural value for modern science.
