Abstract:

The essay considers M.T. Lasuria’s poem “The Star of Dawn” in parallel with the Holy Scripture, with masterpieces of world and Russian art, with world history and the history of Abkhazia, as well as with alarming modern trends. Pictures and scenes of Abkhazian life, its plastic elements are seen by the poet through the millennia on the pages of the Holy Scripture; and this conjugation emphasizes the antiquity of folk traditions, the depth and Christian foundations of the worldview that gave readers “The Star of Dawn”. It is shown that the biblical imagery of the poet’s language testifies to his deep immersion in the history of the Holy Land, Jerusalem, Bethlehem. The shrines of Palestine are the sandy pier of humanity, from which a person’s life begins and where it ends. This image formed the basis of the poem’s composition, helped to build its twelve chapters into an unshakable structure that holds many themes, images, revelations, reminiscences, reasoning, insights, associations. The poem was created by M. Lasuria at the end of his life, in old age, with which the poet is “in harmony”, and therefore the years he lived helped to sweep aside everything petty, secondary and write about the main thing: about God, about the human soul.
