The work is dedicated to the academic heritage of the outstanding Abkhaz folklorist and literary scholar Sergei Ladovich Zukhba (1936–2014), who made a great contribution to domestic science and Abkhaz studies. It reflects the merits of the scholar in the field of collecting, publishing and studying materials of oral folklore of the Abkhaz, examines all his works, which explore a number of theoretical issues of the oral folklore of the Abkhaz people, the poetics of Abkhaz fairy tales, the history of recordings of folklore works, the typology of the heroic-historical epic of the Abkhaz, genealogical traditions of the people, myths and legends, the genre composition of the Abkhaz folk non-fairy-tale prose, artistic and visual means of folk poetry, the Nart epic in the folklore of the Abkhaz living in Turkey, etc. S. Zukhba was also known as a literary scholar and critic; published dozens of articles and published a number of books devoted to the problems of the history of Abkhaz literature, the genre of the short story, the functioning of mythological and folklore plots and images in literature, issues of the development of Abkhaz criticism and literary studies, Abkhaz-Russian and Abkhaz-Georgian literary ties, the work of writers and scientists — D. Gulia, S. Chanba, M. Lakrba, B. Shinkuba, A. Gogua, V. Tsvinaria, M. Lasuria, Sh. Inalipa, A. Anshba, Sh. Salakaia and others.
