Abstract:

One of the key themes of the novel “Happy Moscow” is the theme of the children of the revolution, who in the 1930s came into the big life as a new socialist replacement. The image of the main heroine of the work, Moscow Ivanovna Chestnova, embodies a new person of the era. In the novel, the theme of the children of the revolution is revealed through a number of motives associated with the main heroine, which are combined into a single motive complex. The motives of orphanhood, vagrancy, learning, conquering nature and the plot-forming motive of a running man with a torch, first appearing in the first chapter of the novel, are subsequently repeated many times on its pages, thereby emphasizing the influence of early life on the fate of the main heroine. In “Happy Moscow,” the children of the revolution are presented as new Prometheuses, ready to sacrifice themselves for the sake of a new world and at the same time unable to find themselves in such values as family and home.
