Abstract:

The article deals with the problems of the national intelligentsia in Russia and Taiwan (more broadly — in China), the historical prerequisites for the emergence of a “divided people” and two streams of national literatures — Russian and Chinese. The main objects of comparative analysis were the prose works of the Taiwanese (Chinese) writer Bai Xianyong (mainly the collection of short stories “The Taipei People”) and G. Gazdanov (the novel “Tvening at Claire’s”). The author shows that Taiwanese literature is an original branch of Chinese literature, writes about the combination of Chinese classical tradition and Western modernist experience, which is reflected in the work of Bai Xianyong. At the same time, the writer managed to preserve the national cultural codes, did not advocate their destruction and oblivion.

  • Keywords: Russian Literature, G. Gazdanov, Taiwanese (Chinese) Literature, Bai Xianyong, Poetics, Tradition, Modernism, Comparative Typological Analysis.
