Abstract:

The article reveals the creative connections of the largest Russian literary theorist and literary critic Vadim Valeryanovich Kozhinov and the outstanding Abkhazian poet, prose writer, famous historian, linguist, folklorist, public and statesman Bagrat Vasilyevich Shinkuba. The role of Kozhinov in the creative fate of Shinkuba’s works, his high appreciation of the writer’s novels, and the desire to acquaint the Russian reader with them are noted. The appeal to epistolary documents convincingly emphasizes the friendly, trusting relationship between the two masters of the word, who frankly shared their assessments and opinions with each other. Memoirs are also given about Kozhinov’s acquaintance with the Abkhaz intelligentsia, about Kozhinov’s creative contacts with Abkhaz writers, about the critic’s stay in Abkhazia, about his intention to study the Abkhaz language, Abkhaz literature, Abkhaz history. The deep respect of the Abkhaz people for Kozhinov is expressed in the telegram of the first President of the Republic of Abkhazia, Vladislav Grigoryevich Ardzinba, in connection with the death of the critic.
