Abstract:

The article deals with the creative, business and friendly relations of M. Gorky and Fyodor Alexandrovich Braun. Their acquaintance took place in 1918, when Gorky organized the publishing house “World Literature” in St. Petersburg, where Braun headed the department of German literature and was a member of the board of experts. Having left for Germany, Gorky began to publish the magazine “Beseda,” of which he invited Braun to head the scientific department. Their intensive correspondence lasted four years (1922–1925), and was devoted mainly to publishing, literary, scientific topics. The materials available in the Gorky Archive allow us to reassess the importance of the famous scientist, archaeologist and philologist F.A. Braun and his scientific heritage, as well as to more comprehensively represent the personality of M. Gorky, writer, publisher, editor, friend.

  • Keywords: Gorky, Braun, publishing house “World Literature,” magazine “Beseda,” correspondence, Gorky archive.
