Abstract:

In modern editions of Zinaida Gippius’ works, as a rule, there are no references to translations of her texts into foreign languages, in particular, into Latvian language. The role of Gippius in Latvian culture has not yet been appreciated. At the same time, translations of her poems and prose in Russia and in exile have been sought by Latvian readers and are relevant for a number of Latvian writers and critics. Her poems and prose were translated into Latvian language by various poets and writers in Latvia. Often, the name Gippius is found on the pages of Latvian memoirs in the first half of the 20th century. These texts are not translated into Russian language and are an unread page in the history of the reception of Gippius by another national culture.
