Abstract:
The book presents a detailed commentary on selected political fragments of Alcaeus of Mytilene, one of the greatest lyric poets of Ancient Greece. The commentary is preceded by a concise description of the dialect of Lesbian poetry and supplemented by a survey of political and cultural history of Lesbos from the earliest times up to the politically turbulent time of Alcaeus, written by E. Solomatina. The commentary is intended for a wide range of students of Greek literature.
