The article is devoted to the circumstances of Platonov’s arrival in the “Literary Critic” magazine. Based on the material of periodicals and archives, the literary and political situation of 1936 is reconstructed, related to the issues of literary criticism, the main discussions and campaigns of this year. The article examines the general situation in literary criticism after 1932, the special position of the “Literary Critic,” the aesthetic and philosophical attitudes of the magazine closest to Platonov as a critic
