Abstract:
The article deals with the tale of Bluebeard in classical and modern interpretations. The conducted research shows how the essence of the magic story changes from the traditional plot into a story of the late twentieth century Bluebeard in Ireland by J. Updike. In the postmodernist paradigm, the storyline can change beyond recognition without losing its composition: the form remains the same, and the content undergoes a new rethinking. The classic fairy tale still teaches and heals, but with a certain amount of irony and Gothic aesthetics. The meanings shift not to generally accepted ethical norms, but to modern ambivalent didactics, asserting those values that are close to the society of the turn of the century.
