Abstract:
The book assembles major works on Pushkin by the remarkable philologist Sergey Georgievich Bocharov (1929–2017), starting from his first articles of the beginning of the 1960s up to the last works that were published postmortem. The first section contains works on “Eugene Onegin”, “The Belkin Tales”, “The Queen of Spades”, “The Little Tragedies”, on Pushkin’s poems. The second section contains articles on how Pushkin’s ideas and images sprouted in later literature, primarily in Dostoevsky’s novels. The third section is dedicated to problems of studying and understanding Pushkin: besides the large historical and literary essay on the perception of Pushkin’s heritage in the 19–20 centuries, here are also presented responses on events and phemomena in Pushkin studies of the 1990s–2010s. S.G. Bocharov’s works are based on detailed reading, they are characterised by depth of analysis, large scale of research thought and a particular language that is expressive and flexible, which places them among the best examples of research prose of the 20th century.
