Abstract:

In Russian literary theory, the internal rhyme has always been in the position of Cinderella. The number of special works about the internal rhyme is small. Internal rhyme is not included in rhyme dictionaries, and is not the subject of monographic studies. The reasons why internal rhymes, unlike final ones, have not been the subject of in-depth research so far are objective. In the 19th century, internal rhyme was rarely resorted to. The 20th century radically expanded the scope, range of functions and possibilities of internal rhyme. However, the inertia of previous ideas about it prevents us today from seeing in the texts of Russian poets of the 20th century a transformed inner rhyme that has gone a long way of development, which made it different, unlike the classical one, associated with the end of a half-verse and a caesura. The purpose of the article is to draw the attention of researchers to the internal rhyme and its functional transformation, which began more than a hundred years ago.
