Abstract:
The Сollective Мonograph “Sergey Esenin in the Context of Russian and World Сulture” is published for the 130th anniversary of S.A. Esenin’s birth. The book examines a wide range of issues related to the poetics, textual studies and the poet’s creative biography. Special attention is paid to the study of Esenin’s legacy in historical, literary, and cultural contexts, tracing the poet’s continuity with ancient Russian literature and Pushkin, as well as with 19th-century writers and his contemporaries. The monograph reveals the image of Esenin in art, and pays significant attention to translations and the reception of the poet’s work abroad. The materials are also devoted to such little-studied topics as the poet’s genealogy, his publishing activities and the preservation of Esenin’s memory in museums. The research results presented in the materials included in the monograph demonstrate the multifaceted nature of further work on studying the life and biography of Esenin and his contemporaries in the context of Russian and world culture. The information from the monograph will be used in the preparation of the fundamental academic work “The Esenin Encyclopedia (1895–1925)” and will become an important source in the creation of academic biographies of Russian writers and artists of the first half of the 20th century. They will be important for teachers and students of Russian literature and culture.
