Abstract:
The study analyzed the translations of Esenin’s lyrics into Finnish made between 1990 and the 2020s by P.O. Voutilainen and A.I. Mishin. The aim was to track changes in the evolution of translation studies at the turn of centuries. To this end, not only works of the said period are examined, but also the history of translating Esenin’s lyrics in the republic in the 20th century is briefly described. Special focus is on the works of a writer from Finland Pentti Saaritsa, who translated eleven Esenin’s poems into Finnish. The study is urged by the need to identify the translations of the lyrics by this Russian poet into Finnish. The methodology relies on the systemic approach based on the comparative historical and holistic text analysis methods. The novelty is the comparative- contrastive analysis of the translations of Esenin’s lyrics into Finnish made in Karelia and in Finland. The author concludes that all translators except for A. Aikiä translated Esenin after the works of Saaritsa.
