Abstract:

The disclosure of the topic stated in the title of the article begins with the clarification and deepening of the meaning of the concepts of “lyrical hero” and “literary personality” introduced in the 1920s by Yu. Tynyanov, including in relation to the process of creation (in those same years) by translators and literary critics of the image of Esenin for the French reader. The stages of this process are traced (articles by E. Izvolskaya “La littérature mystique au pays du bolshevisme <Mystical literature in the land of Bolshevism>” and P. Pascal (“Une âme russe et deux poèmes <One Russian soul and two poems>”), a note by S. Fume, an article by F. Hellens “The Great Modern Russian Poet: Sergey Esenin”). Hellens’s memories of his first meeting with Esenin (1922) and his work on translations of the poet’s works are included.

  • Keywords: S. Esenin, lyrical hero, literary figure, Yu. Tynyanov, Ch. Baudelaire, E. Izvolskaya, P. Pascal, S. Fumе, I. Ehrenburg, F. Hellens, M. Miloslavskaya.
