Abstract:

The article examines the work of L.A. Mey as the forerunner of Imaginism. He had a particularly deep influence on the poetry of S.A. Esenin — with his artistic images, a relaxed colloquial context, the “careless accuracy” of the word characterizing lively, natural speech. Mey attracted Esenin with the autobiographical nature of the narrative, an intimate and confidential conversation with the reader. The artistic and musical imagery of the “song word” of both poets is focused not only on simplicity and accessibility for the reader / listener; the main thing for them is creative freedom. The appeal to folk song expanded the theme and genre composition of the works of both poets. Mey anticipated a number of verse experiments by Imaginists; much of the experimental poetic practice of his predecessor was learned by V.G. Shershenevich.

  • Keywords: L.A. Mey, Imaginists, S.A. Esenin, V.G. Shershenevich, national art, artistic images, folklore, folk songs, lyrical romance, experimental poetic practice.
