Abstract:

The actualization of the studies of Azerbaijani-Russian literary relations and mutual influences within Azerbaijani literary studies has been clearly observed in recent decades. This article explores the actual problems of studying these relations, which become particularly evident in the context of Sergey Esenin’s works, as he lived for some time in Azerbaijan in 1924– 1925. The poet’s life and work are analyzed through various primary sources, including newspaper articles published during and after his lifetime, memoirs of contemporaries, as well as the works of various Azerbaijani researchers, and the significance of Sergey Esenin’s Baku period in his life and his academic biography is also determined in this context. Azerbaijani researchers who have published numerous articles, a number of books, monographs, defended several dissertations on the works of Sergey Esenin over the years, as well as Azerbaijani translators whose translations of Esenin’s poetry play an important role in the process of research on the poet’s works, have made and continue to make a great contribution to the wide study of the great Russian poet’s legacy. As it is impossible to imagine the work of Sergey Esenin without his Baku period, the process of researching the literary heritage of the poet would be incomplete without the contributions of the Azerbaijani researchers.

  • Keywords: Sergey Esenin, Esenin’s Baku period, Esenin in Baku, Esenin in Azerbaijan, researchers of Esenin’s work, Esenin in Azerbaijani language.
