Abstract:
The article is based on the documents of the State Archive of the Ryazan region, which contain information about the birth, baptism, marriage, death and burial of S.A. Esenin’s ancestors on his father’s side, as well as the poet’s brothers and sisters. The exact dates of their lives and information about persons who took part in church sacraments have been established. Metric records of birth and baptism of the poet’s father A.N. Esenin, as well as S.A. Esenin’s half-brother A.I. Razgulyaev, remain undiscovered. Analysis of archival documents, including metric books of Konstantinovo village for 1840–1911, petitions and receipts of the poet’s grandfather Nikita Osipovich, statements of the Konstantinovsky zemstvo school, diary of G.A. Panfilov, documents on conscription, verdicts of village councils, lists of households in the village, documents on the division of property by the Esenin brothers and on the consolidation of the estate land, allowed to trace how the spelling of the ancestral surname of the poet changed for 40 years.
