Abstract:
Based on the data on the scale of the Battle of Stalingrad — in terms of the area of the territory, the number of participants from both sides and the losses among them, the victory in this battle of units and formations of the Red Army, assessments of events from two sides are analyzed: Soviet and German military, politicians, representatives of special services, journalists, as well as the emergence of contradictions and political crises among Germany’s allies: Hungary, Italy, Romania, Finland. Comparative characteristics of domestic and foreign historiography, its military-political and historical aspects are given, different approaches of researchers from different countries are shown. Certain successes were noted in declassifying documents on the history of the Great Patriotic War and the history of the Battle of Stalingrad. A deep analysis of the published documents of the Soviet special services, which contain value judgments of the participants and eyewitnesses of the Battle of Stalingrad, was carried out. A positive contribution has been made to the study of the most significant pages of the Battle of Stalingrad, as well as the formation of historical memory of the war and the battle.
