Abstract:
The article reconstructs the work by S.K. Makovsky, “On Parnassus of the Silver Age,” using his memoirs. Makovsky’s notebooks show that one of the crucial sources of his memories was the poems, which, however, have significant specifics. The comparison of extracts with the real place of their publication shows that Makovsky did not use direct sources but secondary ones (for example, extracts from contemporaries’ notebooks). On the other hand, the author’s views of the poems as biographical evidence give rise to several speculations that negatively affect the content of the memoirs.
Keywords: Sergey Makovsky, A. Akhmatova, N. Gumilev, Russian emigration, memoirs.
