Abstract:
This article examines the attitude toward Symbolism and Decadence in Lyubov Kopylova’s semi-autobiographical novel “The Patchwork Blanket”, published in 1934. Lyubov Kopylova is a half-forgotten writer who went from a fascination with Symbolism to embracing the ideas of Socialist Realism. Based on archival materials, an attempt is made to identify a possible prototype for one of the novel’s characters, the Symbolist poet “maître Shaternikov.” It is concluded that this could have been Vyacheslav Ivanov.
Keywords: Lyubov Kopylova, Vyacheslav Ivanov, Symbolism, women’s poetry, women’s prose.
