Abstract: This book is a gift from fellow philologists to the outstanding scholar of Russian literature, Maria Viktorovna Mikhailova, for her anniversary. The volume covers the main areas of M.V. Mikhailova’s research interests, including the history of literary criticism, the history of theater, women’s literature and female images in the modern era, archival research, issues of reception and literary influences, and ego-documentary texts. Some papers reveal new aspects of the biographies and works of certain authors (such as V. Burenin, M. Gorky, V. Inber, M. Tsvetaeva, etc.), while others examine the texts of little-known writers (for example, Ekaterina Khomze, who published her works under the pseudonym “B. Olshevri”, or the novelist Vera Kryzhanovskaya-Rochester). A number of articles attempt to describe large-scale literary phenomena associated with both the complex history of 20th-century Russia and those reflecting transnational, pancultural phenomena. This book is addressed to philologists, cultural scholars, and anyone interested in the cultural history of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
