Abstract:

This article continues a long-standing discussion among scholars about the mutual influence of L. Aronzon (1939–1970) and J. Brodsky (1940– 1996), two poets who began their career in the Leningrad underground of the 1960s. The author supposes that Brodsky’s poem “You will gallop in the darkness, across the endless cold hills…” (1962) was influenced by L. Aronzon’s “Pskov Highway” (1961). It is argued that while the Symbolist musical texture of a poetic text is organic for Aronzon, in Brodsky’s case this experience turns out to be a rare exception, since the poet was more drawn to the acmeist precision and structured thought.
