Abstract:
The paper examines the history of the text of the story “Son” by Ivan Bunin. The story “Son” is based on foreign material, which was a rare example for the writer’s pre-revolutionary work. The textology of this story has never been examined before. In the course of work, all six lifetime publications of this work were identified and studied. The selected examples of discrepancies presented in the paper clearly show the movement of the text. It is emphasized that in every publication Bunin most notably worked on improving the psychological portraits of the main characters of the story. The article offers a solution to the problem of choosing the main text of the story for the future academic Complete works of Ivan Bunin.
