Abstract:

The author examines the influence of Dostoevsky’s Notes from Underground on the last film by Lars von Trier, The House That Jack Built, released in 2018. The importance of A. Tarkovsky as one of the sources of interest in Russian culture and Dostoevsky is noted. The subject of research is the Underground Man and his transformation in the movie The House That Jack Built. The focus is on the following aspects: illness, loneliness, underground, idea, bookish thinking. Each of the aspects is examined in detail and the similarities and differences, as well as their reasons, are analyzed.
