Abstract:
Based on the papers of Mario Puccini, conserved at the Gabinetto G.P. Vieusseux Archive in Florence, the essay treats of the Italian reception of Maxim Gorky’s oeuvre. The ample testimony of Puccini, writer and publisher, who was in direct contact with Gorky, exemplifies how Italians responded to the Russian writer, Puccini’s articles and correspondence opening up new avenues of enquiry into Gorky’s Italian destiny.
Keywords: 19th–20th century Russian literature, Gorky in Italy, Readership of Gorky in the early 20th century, Readers of Gorky in Italy, Mario Puccini, Gorky and Italian correspondents.
