M.A. Sholokhov’s novel “The Soil Upturned” is distinguished by its high level of authenticity. Numerous archival documents, testimonies, and memories of participants in collectivization allow for the interpretation and clarification of the deep meanings of textological situations and episodes that pose certain difficulties for understanding by contemporary readers.
