Abstract:
The article attempts to establish the genesis of the numerous archival editions of Leonid Andreev’s novella “The Life of Father Vassily Fiveysky” and connect it with the evolution of the semantic architectonics of this landmark work (through changes in the character system, the dynamics of plot twists, and the metamorphosis of the image of the main character). In addition to traditional textual analysis, the author of this article uses the conceptual framework and tools of French genetic criticism.
Keywords: Leonid Andreev, “The Life of Father Vassily Fiveysky”, textual criticism, poetics, French genetic criticism, avant-texte.
