Abstract:

The book contains bilateral correspondence between Nina Berberova (1901–1993) and Galina Kuznetsova (1900–1976). The correspondence lasted four decades intermittently. Berberova and Kuznetsova were representatives of the Russian literary emigration and belonged to the younger generation of the first wave of emigration. Most of the 59 letters published are from the second half of the 1940s. Correspondents discussed literary, political and personal issues. Among them the split of the literary Parisian emigration into supporters and opponents of the USSR, publishing and everyday difficulties in post-war Europe, relationships with partners and friends. One of the important characters of the correspondence was Ivan Bunin. The publication is provided with essential detailed scholarly commentary, an introduction, index of names and bibliography.

Keywords: Russian emigration, Paris, Germany, USSR, Berberova, Kuznetsova, Stepun, Bunin, correspondence, literature, poetry, female partnership.
