Abstract:

The article presents a brief analytical review of the scientific interests and achievements of N.I. Shubnikova-Guseva, the specifics of her methodology and principles of work as a leading textual and source scholar, setting high standards of academic philology (a thorough comparative study of all text sources, evidence-based analysis of the literary context, historical and biographical realities in which the work was created). Results of the work of N.I. Shubnikova-Guseva with the materials of the dramatic poem “Pugachev” are considered as a scientific basis for both the already implemented textual description of the London autograph “Pugachev” and for further study of this document. The article highlights the most interesting and significant facts related to the study of the London autograph “Pugachev” (the history of its discovery, the state of the manuscript and typewriting, the special status of document storage, the poetics of remarks etc.).
