Abstract:
The monograph explores the ideological and artistic paradigm of the French-speaking Congolese novel during the 20th century development: anti-colonial orientation, protection of spiritual and material values of Africa, connection with oral tradition and participation in the world literary process. Four main patterns of the development of Congolese novelistics are analyzed: 1) French-speaking with a tendency to create “mestizo” writing, using of a local linguistic substrate; 2) super-accelerated development of adapted European novel forms; 3) the combination of different artistic trends of the literary process in the 20th century; 4) hybridization of genres and innovative individual author transformation oral tradition elements. The first chapter is devoted to the work of Congolese novelistics founders; the second chapter analyzes the varieties of the realistic direction; the third — the specifics of postmodernism (plus ultra). The monograph is intended for students, specialists-philologists, teachers of higher and secondary schools, as well as for a wide range of readers interested in African culture.
