Abstract:
The article introduces some episodes of the biography and academic activity of the Russian Orthodox theologian, historian of religion and religious philosopher Sergei Sergeevich Glagolev. The circumstances in which his spiritual formation began and took place are presented. Apologetics, as the main area of research by S.S. Glagolev, was considered by him in the natural scientific aspect, necessary for the formation of a holistic Christian worldview based on a systematic knowledge of reality and a correct understanding of the world around us. The scientific position of the learned theologian determined his desire to shorten the distance between the Orthodox faith and secular science, expand the “horizon of humanity”, and turn to a balanced comparison, on the one hand, of the achievements of science and, on the other hand, of the patristic tradition. Attached is the text of the speech delivered by S.S. Glagolev on October 1, 1902 at a one-year event on the occasion of the 89th anniversary of the opening of the Moscow Theological Academy “The Immortality of the Past. (Principle of Conservation of Phenomena).”
